Mission
At TBC, our mission is to build a bridge between UC Merced students and the opportunities basketball creates—whether that means playing casually, competing at a higher level, or developing leadership and career skills. We believe basketball is more than just a game; it’s a pathway to community, confidence, and connection.
Why?
1. Basketball builds community - It is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to bring people together, creating friendships and networks that last beyond the court.
2. Opportunities should be accessible - Many students aren’t aware of what’s available, and we aim to connect them to chances they might not find otherwise—whether through casual runs, competitive teams, or staff leadership.
3. Personal growth through the game. For many of us, basketball has shaped who we are: giving us confidence, friendships, and experiences that changed our lives. We want to provide that same opportunity for every student who walks through our doors.
Future Goals
Strengthen our competitive presence: Build and grow a respected competitive team that represents UC Merced and earns recognition in the wider basketball community.
Expand casual opportunities: Provide more consistent open gyms, pickup runs, and events where students can connect without pressure.
Create pathways of progression: Develop a clear path for students—from casual play, to staff involvement, to competitive play, and potentially to opportunities with higher-level teams.
Host signature tournaments: Establish regular events that unite students, showcase talent, and build TBC’s reputation on and beyond campus.
Increase visibility and impact: Ensure TBC is known not only at UC Merced but across the greater Merced community, building a legacy of basketball and community engagement.
